Bamboo

Bamboo is among the more strong and durable types of wood which makes it a great material for our outdoor furniture. While bamboo is quite durable, it is always a good idea to take good care of it to minimise everyday wear and tear. Leaving your bamboo furniture out in the rain is for example not recommended as it will shorten the lifespan of the material. If your furniture has become wet, we recommend wiping them dry with a cloth. In summer this might not be a problem, depending on where you live, but in wintertime it can be a good idea to either cover up your bamboo furniture or, even better, move them inside where it is dry. Regular cleaning with a soft, damp cloth and a mild soap can extend the lifespan of the bamboo even further.

Metal

Metal allows us to create versatile furniture like the Helo tables. When not in use, the Helo tabletop can be moved into an upright position, making the table a great fit for your outdoor areas – whatever the size. As with bamboo, it is best not to leave the metal tables out in the rain or cold and instead move them inside when not in use. This is made easier thanks to the movable tabletop. The best cleaning result is achieved by brushing off the tables to remove dust and dirt and then wiping them with a moist cloth.

Concrete

If you are looking for durable furniture in a material that can withstand the elements, concrete is the perfect choice. With concrete you can add an industrial, elegant look that beautifully contrasts your green plants and flowers. Since abrasive cleaners can damage the surface of the concrete, it is recommended to only use mild soaps and water to clean the furniture. If you spill during dinner, it is a good idea to wipe the furniture quickly as concrete can get stains from food, beverages and so on. We also recommend moving your concrete furniture with care in order to not cause any damage to them. The concrete is not frost safe so, depending on where you live, it can be a good idea to move the furniture inside during winter. Other than that, concrete is strong and a great pick for your outdoor furniture. Check out our concrete table called Stone for a minimalist, handcrafted design and smooth surfaces.

To sum up

Time for some final recommendations. While birdsong is among the many joys of summer, bird droppings can actually cause damage to your furniture due to their corrosive nature. It is therefore recommended that you clean these off quickly. If you cannot move your furniture inside or out of the rain, furniture covers can be a good investment. Just remember to pick one that is breathable to avoid a build-up of moisture, heat and mould underneath.

Nature can be hard on your furniture, but if you follow this guide, your furniture is certain to last for many years.

Since our beginning in 2002, we have made quite a few items and designs. Every season we create new products that exude the House Doctor DNA in every way. Through their design, expression, colour and material. As part of our 20th anniversary, and to celebrate these items, our design team has selected 20 signature items that radiate House Doctor.

A table adorned

Combine our signature items into a wonderful display in your home. Adorn the characterful and elegant Molon table with other signature items, such as the unique Flow vase with holes for each individual stem in your bouquet. A characteristic of many of our signature items is that they highlight the items that they are paired with. The hanging rack called Keeper is a great example of this. The clean iron and glass look is elegantly beautiful in such a way that the items placed here are accentuated and come into their own.

The Flood vase utilises iron in a completely different way. Here, it adds to an industrial feel, while the organic shape gives the vase a dynamic look. This duality is another characteristic of many of our signature items.

Light it all up with the contrasting beauty, the Big Fellow lamp. This lamp blends classic and sculptural design in the most effortless way. Make the most of the design and place the table lamp on a console or sideboard where it not only lights up the space but also adds a contemporary feel to the room.

Rustic looks

Some of our most beloved items come from the Rustic series. So much so that we created a new version along with a limited-edition brunch kit as part of our 20th anniversary celebrations.
At House Doctor, we have a wide design range without ever straying from our core DNA. Enjoy two unique vases, each with their own unique style – one sculptural, the other simple and elegant, but both beautiful in their own way.

House Doctor lights

Lamps are among our most popular products. They encapsulate the feel of House Doctor while providing your home with beautiful lighting. Create a cosy corner with the black Volumen lamp hanging over the Woodie lounge chair or, if you want something a little more sculptural, go for the Molecular lamp. Its name underlines the organic roots of its design, while the adjustable rods make the lamp versatile and practical.

First, the basics

So how do you keep your plants happy and great-looking? Talking to one of our talented stylists, she recommends always buying a planter that is a little bigger than you might think you need. This is because plants need space, and while they might fit your planter perfectly at first, they quickly grow to a size where a small planter might end up being a limiting factor.

Contrasting looks

Furthermore, choosing a planter that is bigger than the plant it is home to, works to create a beautiful, contrasting look. A tall plant in a wide planter, for example, works wonders. Take a standard single stemmed fig tree as an example of this. The contrasting dimensions of the slender tree and the planter at the bottom create an informal, untraditional setting that is certain to be a wonderful addition to your home décor.

Diversity among plants

Our stylist recommends allowing for plants that are random in their way of growing. It does not matter if they grow in a crooked way, for example, that just adds charm to your home décor. To really complete this look, choose a diverse selection of plants in different sizes and looks. Then add different planters to complement the plants. You could go with our stylist’s favourite, Concrete, with its light grey tones and ribbed pattern. Or choose a planter with a reactive glaze with minor, yet deliberate imperfections. These planters are great for your diverse display of plants as the handmade quality means that no two planters are completely alike, just like plants never are.

The weather is slowly getting warmer. You can enjoy an open window here and there, and soon you will be able to enjoy a cup of coffee outside and before you know it, most of your free time is spent outside once again. We cannot wait! Our outdoor furniture is designed exactly for this occasion, making it easy for you to extend your home outside.

Move outside

Most people enjoy spending time outside, however, not everyone has a large outdoor area to decorate. People living in the city might have a small balcony, while others enjoy large terraces or perhaps an orangery. No matter the size and style of your outdoor area, we want to give you plenty of choice when styling it. Take the iron Helo table as an example. The table comes in a round and a square version and in two elegant colours. The table creates an informal setting and is a great spot for summer relaxation. What is even better is that it can be moved into an upright position when not in use. Perfect for smaller spaces such as a balcony.

Bring a blanket

Do not forget to bring textiles to your outdoor area. While the summer hopefully will be warm and sunny, a cold breeze might occasionally pass through and in that case, a blanket is a lovely addition. In the shade

Though the summer sun is lovely, taking a break in the shade is sometimes necessary and the healthiest for your skin. Choose a garden umbrella with a vintage style that elevates the overall look of your outdoor area and gives it a relaxed expression. Imagine sitting in the shade, a cold drink in hand, while the fringes of the umbrella move slightly in a summer breeze.
